ECB’s Pereira Declares Price Stability Achieved, Calls for EU Reforms
ECB Governing Council member Mario Centeno Pereira stated that price stability has been achieved in the eurozone, with inflation stabilizing around the central bank's 2% target. Speaking on Portuguese public television, the Bank of Portugal governor emphasized that monetary policy has fulfilled its role, leaving the next phase of economic growth to structural reforms by EU governments.
"The single market remains Europe's greatest unrealized asset," Pereira noted, describing current growth as anemic. His comments align with ECB President Christine Lagarde's recent assessment that the institution has entered a holding pattern after four consecutive meetings without rate adjustments.
